- In this 40-line poem, the speaker is at a child's funeral. He speaks of sharing the grief the family has, because they are all a community that lost a little girl. The speaker recounts the father calling him to announce the death, of cursing and feeling farther from God in light of such a tragedy. He speaks of the incomprehensibility of death and how we try to fill that void with happy memories to distract ourselves from his senselessness. The poem closes with a sort of relief that the girl died before life would become miserable to her, presumably by growing up, and how she hasn't died at all, but only moved elsewhere. The poem is typed in red ink in a 50s diner style typography. On the facing page is a red ink wood cute of a baby wrapped in a flower shaped womb, eyes closed and hands gripping the umbilical cord around it.
