Velma Smalley describes the December 7 demonstrations in the Liberal Arts, Physical Science, Union Building and Library of the UTEP campus. Students disagreed with Dean Alvin Rivera's dismissal. The administration diverted students to Leech field before students moved to the Union building to continue their gathering. Adminstration shut off the electricity to deter them from gathering. Gary Brooks, the Vice President of Student Affairs, accuses students of disorderly conduct, which was dismissed for lack of evidence. Brooks then wrote a statement of disagreement on the judgment. Smalley suggests that students should continue to speak as it their right, using a metaphor of father and child, where the students are hurt, not throwing a tantrum and so the father should listen.
